Filming the Borders: Ethnography, Solidarity and Necropolitics

On Friday, 15 May 2026, at 12:30, the University of Mayotte will host a public conference titled “Filming the Borders: Ethnography, Solidarity and Necropolitics” in the Salle Polyvalente. The session brings together scholars working at the intersection of visual anthropology, migration studies, and human rights.
Speakers include José Gonzalez Morandi (Maître de Conférences, Anthropology, University of Mayotte), Luca Queriolo Palmas (Professor of Sociology, University of Genoa), and Georgeta Stoica. The panel will examine how film and audiovisual practices document and shape experiences at borders, explore forms of solidarity, and address the political and ethical dimensions of death, vulnerability, and exclusion.
The conference is open to students, researchers, and the general public.
