Comorian Writer Soiyarta Attoumani: A Story of Resilience from Mayotte
During their ethnographic fieldwork in Mayotte, the SolRoutes team had the opportunity to meet and interview Soiyarta Attoumani, a young Comorian writer whose work has already gained significant attention in the region. Soiyarta first became known for her autobiography Mi Vida Mon Combat, in which she recounts her journey as a migrant navigating illness, displacement, and the challenges that eventually brought her and her family to Mayotte. The book is freely available online.
SolRoutes is pleased to share the news of Soiyarta’s latest publication, Ombre de Chido, Miroir Étoile, available on Amazon. This new work centres on one of the defining events in Mayotte’s recent history: the 2024 cyclone, a moment that deeply affected the island’s communities and continues to shape local memory and storytelling.
Soiyarta’s writing offers a powerful lens into the lived experiences of Comorian and Mahoran residents, blending personal narrative with broader reflections on vulnerability, resilience, and belonging. Her generosity during the SolRoutes team’s visit, as well as her commitment to sharing these stories, is deeply appreciated.
SolRoutes warmly congratulates Soiyarta on this new milestone in her career as a writer and thanks her for her generosity.
